Frequently Asked Questions.
Everything you need to know about counting words with wordcountergo.com. Use our free word counter to start counting.
How do you count words?
Words are counted using Unicode word boundary detection via the ECMAScript Intl.Segmenter API. This correctly handles all languages including English, Chinese, Arabic, Hindi, Japanese, and more. A "word" is any sequence of letters, digits, or apostrophes separated by whitespace or punctuation.
Is my text stored on your servers?
No. Your text is processed entirely in your browser. Nothing is sent to any server. If you refresh the page, your text is restored from localStorage on your device for your convenience.
Does it work with languages other than English?
Yes. The tool uses Unicode-aware word segmentation that works with all languages — Spanish, French, German, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Hindi, Russian, and more. Character counting works for any script including CJK and right-to-left languages.
How are pages calculated?
Pages are calculated based on the standard of approximately 250 words per page (single-spaced). This is the most common convention for academic and professional writing.
What are readability scores?
Readability scores estimate how easy your text is to read. We show three: Flesch Reading Ease (higher = easier, 60-70 is good), Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level (US grade level), and Gunning Fog Index (years of education needed). These are designed for English text.
How is reading time calculated?
Reading time uses the average reading speed of 200 words per minute. Speaking time uses 130 words per minute. These are standard estimates used across the web.
Is there a word limit?
No. You can paste or type as much text as you want. The tool handles large documents without any issues.
Is wordcountergo.com free?
Yes. The tool is completely free with no ads, no sign-ups, and no hidden limits. No account required.
